2012 Corruption Perceptions Index

CPI 2012_picTransparency International published the result of its annual Corruption Perceptions Index, first launched in 1995. The index measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption in 176 countries and territories around the world, scoring countries on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

“Looking at this year’s Corruption Perceptions Index, few would fail to recognize corruption as a central major threat facing humanity, one that destroys lives and communities and undermines countries and institutions," notes Huguette Labelle, Chair of Transparency International. This year, the majority of countries scored under 50, indicating a serious corruption problem.
