Visit of the Swedish Partners

Swedish PartnersOn 6 May 2010, an expert meeting between the Swedish National Anti-Corruption Unit and the President of EPAC/EACN was held in Vienna.

 The Swedish delegation, consisting of public prosecutors and auditors, was headed by Gunnar Stetler, director of the supreme Swedish anti-corruption authority. EPAC/EACN President Martin Kreutner welcomed the delegation and briefly presented the history of the networks. He likewise emphasized the importance of safeguarding international cooperation in the fight against corruption, which provides the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from each other. Furthermore, he stressed that the long-term sustainability of the networks would be a focal point of discussion in the future.

Martin Kreutner, who serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), gave a short overview of the Academy. IACA - a joint initiative of UNODC, AUSTRIA, OLAF and other partners - will be established as an international centre of excellence following a new and holistic, intercultural, interdisciplinary and intersectoral approach to fighting corruption. It will commence operations in autumn 2010 and will act as a full-fledged international organisation by 2011.

The productive afternoon meeting and discussions ended with a common outlook on the Annual EPAC/EACN Conference in Romania in November.
