2008 CACOLE Conference

cacole.jpg16 to 18 June 2008, the annual conference of the Canadian Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (CACOLE) will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, under the theme "Best Practices and Other Lessons in Civilian Oversight”.

Focusing on the concrete implementation of police oversight, the conference will facilitate the comparison of, and the exchange of experiences between, the different police oversight systems. Main topic will be thus the identification of the strengths and weaknesses of the respective legal and institutional frameworks as well as of the different ways of applying the methods. Moreover, the participants will discuss how to deal with the media and how to involve the public in investigations.Experts with practical experience from all over the world will give their input for an informative dialogue.

Thus the conference should be attended by employees of organizations of the field of police oversight as well as by (department) heads of police organizations.The members - also including EPAC partners - of the steering group of the International Network for the Independent Oversight of Policing will also take the opportunity to participate in this platform and to exchange on the latest progress concerning the worldwide networking of police oversight organizations .As confidence in the public administration - the basis of functioning states under the rule of law - can only be guaranteed by the independent control of police authorities, EPAC is going to continue its active involvement in this worldwide exchange of ideas.
