Interpol General Assembly approves Headquarters Agreement on Anti-Corruption Academy in Austria

InterpolFrom 5 to 8 November 2007, Interpol's 76th General Assembly sessiontook place in Marrakech, Morocco. More than 600 delegates from 186 member countries participated in this event.

One of the focal points of the Assembly was the presentation of the project of the Anti-Corruption Academy in Austria. It dealt with Interpol’s decision to locate the Academy in Austria and with the subsequent negotiations which finally culminated in the signing of the Headquarters Agreement between Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and the Austrian Federal Minister of the Interior Günther Platter in July 2007. The General Assembly enthusiastically welcomed the presentation of the historic building in Laxenburg/Vienna as well as of the Austrian financial contributions to the adaptation of the building to the needs of Interpol.

Also Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and Interpol President Jackie Selebi focused their attention on Austria and the project of the Academy.At the end of the description of the preparatory work it was pointed out that, for implementing the project and for ensuring the sustainable success of the Academy, the outstanding tasks on the part of Interpol should be completed as soon as possible (e.g. the submission of an academic concept or the intensification of strategic partnerships).By approving the Headquarters Agreement, the General Assembly, this year themed "The Path Ahead”, has prepared the ground for the next steps for implementing the Anti-Corruption Academy in Austria, a pioneering project in the field of anti-corruption.
