Death of our Dear Colleague Ferenc Frankberger

We regret to inform you of the sudden death of our dear colleague Ferenc Frankberger, Dr., Police Major-General, who unexpectedly passed away on 24 April 2011.

Ferenc Frankberger was Head of the Hungarian Protective Service of Law Enforcement Agencies from January 2005 to May 2010. He was born in 1958 and started his police career in 1979 as an investigator at the Criminal Department of the Central Police Station in Nagyatád within the Somogy County Police HQ., He held several positions within the Hungarian Police during the following years. From 1987 he served as Head of the Criminal Unit of the Criminal Department of the Central Police Station in Barcs and later took up the post of the Head of the department.

He worked as Head of the Central Police Station in Siófok from 1995 to 2000, and was subsequently appointed as Head the Criminal Intelligence Department within the Criminal Directorate of the Hungarian National Police HQ. In 2005, Ferenc Frankberger took up the function of Head of the Protective Service of Law Enforcement Agencies, and, under his guidance, this authority successfully hosted the EPAC Annual Conference in 2006.

He was appointed as EPAC Vice-President at the EPAC Annual Conference in 2009. With his dedication and energy, he greatly contributed to the fight against corruption beyond the borders of his country. Ferenc Frankberger was promoted to Police Brigadier General on 15 March 2006, and on 24 April 2009 to Police Major-General. On 30 March 2010, he was awarded the Officer's Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary by the President of State for his active international role in EPAC and his professional work within the Hungarian law enforcement institutions.
